- Salary Progression by Total Work Terms Completed:
- Work Term 1 (first work term): $22.50 pr/hr
- Work Term 2: $24.00 pr/hr
- Work Term 3: $27.00 pr/hr
- Work Term 4: $28.00 pr/hr
- Work term 5: $29.00 pr/hr
- Work term 6: $30.00 pr/hr
- Duration: September 3rd to December 20th, 2024

C++ Software Developer Intern
Safe Software is looking for several C++ Software Developer Interns to join our Form and Engine Product Development groups to support the functionality of new and existing features in our FME product platform.
Our student internships have the opportunity to be hybrid/on-premise at our office based in Surrey, BC, Canada. In order to provide the best onboarding and mentorship experience, this position will require the intern to work on-premise at least 2 days per week at our office based in Surrey, BC, Canada. The remaining 3 days can be worked remotely from home.
About The Team
Our Product Development department spans across our entire FME Platform (Form, Engine, Flow, Flow Hosted and Mobile) and is subdivided into specialized cross-functional teams that support the development cycle from end-to-end. Within your assigned development team, you may have the opportunity to work closely with developers, quality analysts, a product manager, and a UX/UI designer to assist with new feature development and see the software development life cycle from end-to-end. Our primary focus is to write high performance code that can scale with FME’s growing list of functionalities.
What You’ll Be Doing
The specific responsibilities of your position will be dependent on which team you are assigned to, however, you can expect your position as a C++ Software Developer Intern to be comprised of some of the responsibilities outlined below:
- Write and design readable, maintainable production-level code in C++
- Analyze and debug complex issues and help resolve them
- Participate and share ideas in daily team stand-up meetings
- Collaborate with other team members through peer code reviews and brainstorming sessions
- Learn and explore new and existing technologies during your day-to-day work term
What We’re Looking For

Required skills
Technical skills
- Proficient with C++ including modern features
- Experience with Git/GitHub
- Effective communication skills to convey technical topics (synchronously and asynchronously)
- Works well independently and in a team with minimal supervision
- Self-motivated and eager to both teach and learn new skills
- Ability to work independently and ask questions as needed
- Ability to collaborate effectively and exchange meaningful feedback
- Ability to think analytically and propose solutions to solve problems
Desired skills / Bonus Points
- Experience with Qt, Python, and GUI testing frameworks (Form team only)
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Kanban or Scrum
- Experience in Visual Studio
- Experience with relational databases
- Experience with Atlassian tools (e.g. Jira and Confluence)
- Experience using Autodesk products (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Civil3D)(Engine team only)
- Experience with FME or other GIS Software/formats (Engine team only)
- Students in their 3rd year or above preferred
